About Jake Underwood

I started out in structural engineering — spending years understanding how buildings actually work from the ground up — before moving into architectural design. That combination is fairly unusual, and it shapes the way I approach every project.

Most residential projects involve two separate professionals: an architectural designer to create the design and an engineer to handle the structure. With me, you get experience from both disciplines in one. That means fewer handoffs, fewer miscommunications, and a single point of contact from your first planning application through to the moment your builder starts on site.

I specialise in residential projects, including home extensions, loft conversions and new build homes across Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and London, providing a clear and reliable service from initial ideas through to planning and construction drawings.

I set up my practice because I wanted to do things properly. No junior staff handling your project, no designer stuck on structural questions, and no engineer putting columns in the middle of a great layout. When you work with me, you work directly with me from start to finish — and I take that responsibility seriously.

I cover Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and London, and I’ve built my work almost entirely through referrals. When someone recommends you to a friend, they’re putting their own reputation on the line — I don’t take that lightly.

A Bit About Me

I grew up in Frimley and I’m now based in Weybridge with my partner and our daughter. Outside of work, family life keeps me busy and grounded, which is probably why I take a very practical, realistic approach to the projects I work on.

Being local is important to me, and I’ve spent years working on homes across Surrey and the surrounding areas. A lot of my work comes from recommendations, which I think says a lot about the way I work and the relationships I build with clients.

I understand that for most people, extending or altering their home is a big decision, so I aim to make the process as clear, straightforward and stress-free as possible.
