Overview
A growing family wanted to make the most of their existing home — adding space, improving the layout and future-proofing the property rather than moving.
The Design
The side extension created a home office at the front of the property, along with a new utility room and a properly integrated ground floor WC.
Opening up into the extension allowed the kitchen to become part of a wide, open-plan kitchen, living and dining space, with new bifold doors connecting the home to the garden. Skylights were introduced to bring in natural light, particularly where the extension sits close to the boundary.
Upstairs, the master bedroom was reconfigured to include a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, with the new staircase carefully positioned above the existing one.
The loft conversion added two additional bedrooms and a shared bathroom, with the rear bedroom featuring a full glazed gable overlooking the garden.
Planning & Drawings
Planning drawings were prepared and submitted for the extension and associated alterations.
The design was developed in line with the surrounding properties, with neighbouring extensions helping to support the proposal. Materials were carefully considered to match the existing house, and the layout was designed to minimise impact on neighbouring boundaries.
A full set of planning drawings and building regulations drawings was produced, clearly defining the proposed layout and design.
Outcome
The completed design provides a more spacious and flexible family home, with improved layout, additional bedrooms and a well-connected living space.
The new open-plan ground floor creates a central hub for family life, while the added rooms and reconfiguration allow the home to adapt to the family’s changing needs over time.
